The Divan Centre had the honour of hosting a highly attended Black Coffee event with Dr. Ole Diehl, Vice President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), on Thursday, 27 November 2025, at the Waldorf Astoria Berlin.
Against the backdrop of the recent leadership transition within the BND and numerous ongoing international crises, participants showed exceptionally strong interest in Dr. Diehl’s perspectives. In his talk, “BND on the Global Intelligence Frontline: What Are the New Security Challenges?”, he offered a forward-looking assessment of geopolitical developments and the operational challenges modern intelligence services are increasingly required to address.
Dr. Diehl, former German Ambassador to Baghdad and now serving his second term as Vice President of the BND, shared concise insights on emerging threats, international cooperation, and the evolving role of intelligence agencies in an increasingly complex global environment.
Moderated by Ewald König, the event was held under the Chatham House Rule and concluded with a lively Q&A session. The strong turnout and the high level of audience engagement underscored both the relevance of the topic and the growing demand for deeper orientation on issues of German and international security policy.
We extend our sincere thanks to all guests for their participation and look forward to welcoming you again at our upcoming events.
