On October 14, 2025, the Divan Centre hosted a special Black Coffee at the Hotel Waldorf Astoria in Berlin, welcoming none other than Joschka Fischer, former Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor of Germany. Fischer, one of the most influential political figures of the Green Party, shared his insights on key questions of international politics — particularly on the situation in the Middle East — and offered reflections on the geopolitical challenges of our time.
Moderated by journalist Ewald König, the event unfolded as an open and multifaceted discussion. Under the Chatham House Rule, participants were free to raise questions and address topics that are often only briefly touched upon in public discourse. Fischer spoke about shifting global power dynamics, Europe’s position between competing blocs, and the growing importance of diplomatic mediation in an increasingly fragmented world order.
The event provided a rare space for direct exchange with one of Germany’s most experienced foreign policy figures. The lively discussions and Fischer’s personal reflections underscored the importance of independent dialogue formats such as Black Coffee — places where political experience, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility come together.
The Divan Centre extends its gratitude to all guests for their participation and looks forward to continuing this series of conversations. Especially in times of global tension, there is a need for platforms that build bridges — between politics and the public, and between contrasting perspectives.
