In a historic first for a U.S. president, Donald Trump conducted extensive talks with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during an official visit to Qatar. The discussions covered bilateral relations and various regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The one-day visit included an official reception for the U.S. President at Lusail Palace, where the Emir hosted a formal dinner in honor of Trump and his accompanying delegation, which included the U.S. Secretaries of State, Defense, and Treasury, senior administration officials, the Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs, and representatives of major U.S. companies.
During the over two-hour bilateral meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of relations between Doha and Washington, which Trump described as having reached “their highest level in history.” They affirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic cooperation, particularly in security, energy, and investment.
In remarks following the meeting, Trump praised what he called the “developmental renaissance” in Qatar, commending the Qatari leadership’s role in achieving these accomplishments. He also expressed appreciation for the “constructive role” played by Qatari diplomacy in regional issues, including mediating hostage releases and contributing to efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf region.
On the economic front, the visit saw the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding between Qatari institutions and U.S. companies, including a major deal with Boeing valued at over $200 billion, covering aviation, technology, and logistics services.
Trump emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership with Qatar on sensitive regional issues, including the Iranian file, expressing hope that Qatar would contribute to efforts to calm tensions and prevent escalation in the region.
Regarding bilateral relations, Trump pledged to enhance cooperation with Doha in security, military, and economic fields, noting that Washington intends to take future steps to support Qatar and advance mutual interests.
