Foreign Minister Wadephul strongly condemned the Israeli strike in Doha, stating that it not only violated Qatar’s territorial sovereignty but also endangered international efforts to secure the release of the hostages. He expressed deep concern for their safety, including German nationals, and conveyed this during a phone call with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar.
The minister underlined Qatar’s crucial role in negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of the hostages. He also expressed his solidarity, gratitude, and appreciation to his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed, for these efforts.
Wadephul urgently called for all possible efforts to be made to finally achieve a ceasefire and return the hostages to their families. At the same time, he stressed that responsibility for the escalation lies with Hamas, whose terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 triggered the current situation.
