His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, officially inaugurated the State of Qatar’s pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, which will be held in Japan from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Jaber bin Jarallah Al Marri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan and Commissioner-General of the Qatari Pavilion; Sheikh Ali bin Walid Al Thani, Deputy Commissioner-General and Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for Qatar’s participation in the Expo; and Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, Director of the Government Communications Office. Numerous high-ranking officials and guests were present at the event, which marked the official launch of Qatar’s participation in this six-month global celebration of culture, innovation, and civilizational exchange.
On this occasion, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani stated: “This year’s Expo theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, is more than just a slogan – it is a call to shared responsibility in building a more sustainable and prosperous world. In Qatar, this responsibility is embodied in our National Vision 2030, which guides our comprehensive development efforts and vision for a sustainable future.”
Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani emphasized: “For centuries, the people of Qatar have drawn strength and identity from our coastline. This dynamic harmony between land and sea has shaped our culture and heritage, sustained our livelihood, and helped turn our beloved homeland into what it is today – a global hub for trade and diplomacy. We are proud to share these experiences with the international community at Expo Osaka 2025.”
His Excellency Jaber Jarallah Al Marri, Commissioner-General of the Qatari Pavilion and Ambassador of Qatar to Japan, described the event as a symbol of innovation, culture, and unity. He highlighted that the pavilion reflects Qatar’s commitment to human development and the strong bilateral relations with Japan – ties built on more than 50 years of cooperation and friendship.
Sheikh Ali bin Walid Al Thani invited the world to explore Qatar’s success story – how the country has transformed its natural resources into globally valuable contributions while preserving its cultural authenticity and national identity.
The Qatari Pavilion is divided into two main sections: “Sea” and “Land.” Through interactive and information-rich exhibitions, the pavilion showcases Qatar’s natural and cultural history as well as its achievements in urban development, economy, and environmental and social initiatives.
Under the theme “From Coastline to Future”, the pavilion takes visitors on an immersive journey that narrates Qatar’s evolution from a connected coastal community to a modern leader in sustainable development and innovation.
Since Expo Osaka opened to the public, the Qatari Pavilion has been among the most visited, attracting approximately 8,000 visitors so far, reflecting the strong interest in its content.
The pavilion also includes a space for official guests, celebrating the deep-rooted cultural connections between Qatar and Japan – featuring the “Charter of Friendship” and cultural activities that highlight the historical depth of bilateral relations.
The pavilion was designed by world-renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who drew inspiration from the sails of traditional Qatari boats and the Japanese wood joinery technique Kigumi to express the harmony between the two cultures through light, water, and natural materials.
Qatar’s participation in this international event underscores its commitment to promoting cultural collaboration and innovation, while presenting its forward-looking vision in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which balances authenticity with progress.
