A Qatari student team won the bronze medal at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2025), which was held this year in Paris, France, with the participation of more than 90 countries from around the world. This competition is one of the most prominent international scientific events for high school students in the field of physics, and includes theoretical and practical tests aimed at assessing their abilities in scientific analysis and solving complex problems.
The Qatari achievement came through student Anugrajava Sivakumar, from the Modern Indian School (DPS), who won the bronze medal, representing the State of Qatar as part of a team of five students carefully selected after multiple evaluation and training stages. The team also included students Saeed Ali Al Marri and Mohammed Abdullah Amiruddin from the Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, Anas Rami Al Salkawi from Ali Bin Jassim Secondary School for Boys, and Mohammed Rehan Iqbal from Belgravia High School. This victory is the culmination of a systematic preparation process that began with survey tests to identify student competencies in Qatari public, private, and international schools, followed by intensive training programs supervised by specialized local and international trainers. These trainings included theoretical lectures and practical applications, aiming to enhance students’ capabilities and enable them to compete at the global level.
The International Physics Olympiad, founded in 1967, is a prestigious scientific platform that seeks to stimulate students’ interest in science and develop critical thinking. This scientific event also contributes to strengthening relations between the world’s youth through cultural and scientific exchange.
For its part, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar expressed its pride in the national team’s participation and affirmed its continued support for talented students and providing them with opportunities to participate in international scientific forums. The Ministry also renewed its commitment to instilling a culture of excellence and creativity, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in the area of human capital development. This achievement is a new addition to Qatar’s record of participation in scientific competitions, and reflects the country’s efforts to empower youth and enhance their academic and technical capabilities at the international level.
