The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), announced the organization of the “International Conference to Combat Hatred of Islam” under the title “Islamophobia: Concept and Practice Amid Current Global Conditions” on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the League’s headquarters.
The conference aims to address the alarming rise in hate speech and discrimination against Muslims, exacerbated by global crises and conflicts that have deepened cultural and religious divides among peoples. It seeks to shed light on this phenomenon, devise ways to confront it, and promote values of coexistence and mutual respect among followers of different faiths. The conference views combating Islamophobia as requiring comprehensive strategies to foster tolerance and cultural and religious diversity, including educational and media awareness of the importance of dialogue and rejection of discrimination, supporting interfaith dialogue initiatives to strengthen community ties, and building a just society that celebrates diversity as a driving force for progress rather than an obstacle, all in pursuit of a world marked by peace and understanding.
Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector, expressed the League’s commitment to combating all forms of hatred and discrimination, affirming that Islam calls for peace, justice, and tolerance. She emphasized the need for international cooperation to correct negative stereotypes about Islam, stressing that education and awareness are foundational pillars in addressing these perceptions and calling for collective efforts to spread values of peace and openness.
The League urged international parties to unite efforts against acts of religious hatred, violations of beliefs, and anything that distorts the image of religions or discriminates against individuals based on their faith, while combating discrimination and hate speech. It also underscored the necessity of enhancing global dialogue to promote a culture of tolerance and peace at all levels, respect religious diversity to build bridges of understanding and coexistence, and work to break free from cycles of hatred and conflict toward a world that celebrates diversity and respect.
The League concluded by renewing its commitment to promoting noble human values that advocate tolerance, respect, and understanding among peoples, aiming to build a world filled with peace, love, and brotherhood, free from hatred and discrimination.
